How does the Career Development Office help me with career planning?

We partner with you to determine your career goals and design an action plan to meet those goals. We’ve developed Career Road Maps as guides to help you navagate the process from self-assessment to career assessment, search strategies (i.e. networking), creation of self-marketing tools (i.e. resume/CV, cover letters), and interview preparation. We provide an online interview preparation platform Big Interview (cgu.biginterview.com) you can use to develop and practice your interviewing skills before you meet with a career consultant for a mock interview (available online and inperson)

Will the Career Development Office give me direct access to alumni for networking purposes?

You may be provided with alumni contacts if we have an ongoing relationship with an alumnus who works in your field of interest. However, before referring you to a direct contact, we will often work with you on your networking skills.

Does the Career Development Office offer services to CGU alumni?
&nbsp
Yes. Alumni have life-time access to all CDO services.

Does the Career Development Office provide on-campus information sessions with employers?

We do; please refer to Handshake, the CDO calendar and the CGU master calendar for all upcoming events.

Does the Career Development Office host workshops that will help me with future employment?

Yes. Career workshops/webinars are held during the fall, spring and summer. Our workshops/webinars are designed to cover essential aspects of the employment process that include: job search and networking, resume and CV development, and interviewing skills. Please check our calendar for more information. Check out the CDO YouTube channel for recorded workshop/webinars.

If I decide to work with a career consultant, what can I expect?

You can expect individualized attention and advice about your specific career planning and job search needs. This can include resume, CV and cover letter review, job search and networking techniques, mock interviews, industry guidance, salary negotiation, and much more. Your initial appointment may or may not lead to follow-up appointments depending on your needs.
