Canvas Access Restored and Next Steps

Canvas service has been restored following the recent Instructure security incident and temporary outage affecting institutions globally.

Instructure has informed CGU that data associated with our Canvas environment was included in the dataset accessed during the incident. At this time, Instructure has stated that they found no evidence that CGU credentials were compromised, that ongoing access was established within CGU’s Canvas environment, or that additional data was exfiltrated following the outage.

CGU does not store Social Security numbers, dates of birth, financial information, government identifiers, or passwords in Canvas. CGU uses Microsoft Single Sign-On (SSO) for Canvas authentication, so CGU passwords are not stored in or transmitted through Canvas.

As a precaution, please remain alert for phishing emails or suspicious messages referencing Canvas, password resets, coursework, or account access requests.

OIT will continue monitoring updates from Instructure and coordinating with our risk management and legal partners.
