Notice Regarding Instructure (Canvas) Security Incident

You may have seen recent news that Instructure, the company that provides Canvas, reported a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized activity by a threat actor. At this time, Instructure has informed customers of the incident, but has not indicated whether any Claremont Graduate University (CGU) data or accounts were specifically impacted. CGU accesses Canvas through Single Sign-On (SSO) using our Microsoft-based identity platform. As a result, CGU passwords are not stored in or transmitted to Canvas.

What this means for you

• There is no action required from CGU users at this time
• Your CGU credentials remain protected through our SSO and multi-factor authentication controls
• OIT is actively monitoring the situation and coordinating with the vendor
