As a Los Angeles native, Mayquel (pronouns: she/her) ventured out of Los Angeles County to attend UC Irvine and earned a bachelor’s degree in Education Sciences and Sociology.

While at UC Irvine, Mayquel served as a peer mentor in the International Student Excellence Program and was highly involved in other campus areas such as athletic and entertainment events. Upon her degree completion, Mayquel worked in K-12 and higher education.

Prior to joining CGU, Mayquel served as an International Student Advisor at Cal State LA and USC where she advised F-1 students on topics such as maintaining F-1 status, CPT/OPT/STEM OPT as well as acclimating to the U.S. and campus culture. Working in higher education, Mayquel enjoys advising students, creating cultural exchange opportunities and student life events.

Mayquel attends Cal State LA and is pursuing a Master’s in Business Administration. In her free time, she enjoys listening to music, trying new food, and watching international films and series. She is bilingual in English and Spanish and enjoys learning Korean and Italian on Duolingo.
