As part of our New Student Welcome event, we will have breakfast served during our resource fair followed by resource sessions and academic department sessions. We are excited to mark the start of your academic journey with a fun and informative on-campus event! Below is a list of program details for the day:
9:00am-10:00am: New Student Breakfast & Resource Fair
9:30am: Welcome Remarks & Student Keynote
10:00am-12:00pm: Resource Sessions from Career & Professional Development & Center for Writing & Rhetoric
10:00am-10:50am: Professional Connections: Speed Networking Experience with Career & Professional Development
Professional Connections: Speed Networking is a high-energy, structured networking experience designed to help participants practice making strong first impressions and build authentic professional connections—quickly and confidently. Through a series of short, guided conversations, participants will refine their professional introductions, learn how to ask engaging questions, and gain strategies for following up after initial meetings. Whether exploring career paths, expanding professional networks, or strengthening communication skills, participants will leave with increased confidence and meaningful new connections.
11:00am-11:50am: Time Management & Creating a Semester Plan with Center for Writing & Rhetoric
The dynamics of the graduate school workload are unique, and it is often a challenge to integrate academic demands into the rest of life. This workshop gives you tools to thrive during graduate school by providing time management techniques to increase efficiency, plan effectively, and achieve work-life balance. Learn how to create and refine a system for productivity that utilizes assessment and reflection toward incremental improvements.
12:00pm-2:00pm: Academic Department Sessions
This will be a great opportunity for you to mix and mingle with other new students, indulge in delicious food, learn about campus services, connect with first year students, and explore our beautiful campus.
