WASC Senior College and University Commission

Claremont Graduate University’s commitment to ensuring quality and effectiveness of its educational programming and institutional performance is supported by ongoing participation in the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) accreditation process. WSCUC is one of six regional accrediting agencies recognized by the US Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

WSCUC serves public and private institutions of higher learning throughout California, the Pacific, Hawaii, and locations outside the US. The WASC accreditation process ensures that accredited institutions meet very high quality standards, commit to continuous review and improvement, and regularly participate in rigorous, peer-lead, and evidence-based evaluation processes that demonstrate commitment to these standards and use of quality institutional data to inform decision-making, planning and improvement.

Institutions must maintain accreditation status to be eligible to receive federal financial aid, for their degrees and credentials to be acceptable for certain employers’ requirements, and for other accredited schools to accept transfer units.

WSCUC grants and approves reaccreditation status for institutions, and oversees substantive changes such as new degrees, distance education formats, and degrees granted across institutions.
