PHOTOGRAPY OR VIDEOGRAPHY

Photography:

The Office of Marketing & Communications supports the university’s schools, programs, and units by arranging for photography services for events on and off campus. Before you submit your request, please consider the following:

  • Whenever possible, it is advisable that prospective event participants be made aware of the possibility that an event will be photographed. This can be done in the boilerplate language of an invitation or event program text. The following is acceptable language:

To capture our special moments for posterity, Claremont Graduate University may photograph this event for archival, editorial, marketing, and/or social media purposes. If you wish to avoid being photographed or you are a CGU student who has opted out of our photo coverage, please alert a CGU staff member immediately.

  • For big events, please be prepared to post “Notice of Photography” signage at the event. Marketing & Communications can provide signage. For small events and for events involving students and non-employees, we require that all individuals to be photographed sign a Photo Release form. In both cases, MarCom staff will assist with these.
  • Please note that generally, departments will be asked to pay for their own photographer unless it fits in with the university’s strategic marketing plan. The photographers we work with generally charge between approximately $125 to $175 an hour with a two-hour minimum. Events photographed off campus may incur a higher fee/estimate.

Videography:

If you would like a short video that promotes a faculty member, student, or program or advertises a new program or service:

CGU Marketing & Communications produces short-form video that promotes the research, creative work, and professional activities of our students, faculty, and alumni. We also use video to advertise new university initiatives and promote our academic programs to a worldwide audience of potential students, faculty, and donors.

If you would like help hiring a videographer to record a lecture, panel discussion, conference, or event:

CGU works with a small stable of freelance videographers. Depending on availability, we may be able to help you hire one. Shoots are typically a single videographer operating one or two cameras, capturing the speaker and the presentation slides. In order to reduce costs and preserve our brand identity, editing of these videos is done by Marketing. Videos are captioned and uploaded to the official YouTube channel within two weeks after the event.

Cost: Individual videographers typically charge $400 for an event that is four hours or less, and $50 per hour afterward. Once a videographer is secured, you will be charged a $200 cancellation fee if the videography is canceled for any reason within 14 days of the scheduled event.
